JOB TITLE : Assistant Principal at Concord High School

TYPE OF POSITION : Certified - Administrator

REPORTS TO : Building Principal

POSITION PURPOSE : Administers school student personnel program in high school. Counsels and disciplines students, performing any combination of the following tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Formulates student personnel policies.
  • Plans and supervises school and student activity programs.
  • Talks with and disciplines students in case of attendance and behavior problems.
  • Supervises students in attendance at assemblies and athletic events.
  • Coordinate student activities to include: clubs, assemblies, homecomings, etc.
  • Observe and evaluate teacher performance.
  • Works closely with the principal in supporting and encouraging participation in the staff development programs offered by Concord Community Schools.
  • Acts as principal when principal is absent.
  • Works with administrators to coordinate and supervise student teachers.
  • Establishes accurate and appropriate master calendar within deadlines established by the central office and maintains an accurate printed weekly calendar for teachers and students.
  • Communicates with custodial services concerning usage of building for activities.
  • Coordinates student fund-raising activities.
  • Supervises summer school activities.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : Assists principal in supervising classroom teachers and support staff within the school organization. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting the principal in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

  • Appropriate certification as required by the Indiana Department of Education.
  • Ability to plan and organize.
  • Skills in human relations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively before groups of students and parents.
  • Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.

  • The employee should be able to use the following machines, tools, equipment, and work: pen, pencil, pointer, stylus, projector, public address system, tape recorder, blackboard, chalk, charts, diagrams, examinations, manuals, maps, publications, reference books, textbooks, and computers.
